Musing 7 & Ramadhan AlMubarak

This is our first Ramadan in Germany and it has been different…17 hours of fasting sounds torturous but in actual fact, not too bad. Hopefully the weather remains cool unlike last Thursday when it touches 39 degree….berkirap dibuatnya especially in my office as they don’t have aircons here. Even Hakeem manages to fast over the weekend and he didn’t look too tired at the end of the day. Just that he gets “terliur” with all the cooking I did and kept on telling me…Ma, what smells so good… and asyik buka periuk.

Ramadan menu so far is nasi lemak, sambal, telur, ikan bilis, ayam goreng, buah melaka on Saturday and nasi tomato, daging masak merah, dalca and curry puff sardine & daging on Sunday. Nasi lemak never tasted so good…and the nasi tomato is out of this world…although Syirah said still not like her Tok Ma’s nasi tomato which is super yummy in the tummy.

As for school which started Wednesday, 19/8/09, the kids have been enjoying it thus far. Degree of enjoyment tu is 100% for Imran and Hakeem and maybe 50% for Syirah. Hakeem even refused to balik sekolah lama when I jokingly say that we will be going back. Hopefully Syirah will grow to like it more once she has made more new friends. She hates drama coz she has to act and it’s torturous for someone shy…I say it’s good for her to build up self confidence but of course she doesn’t agree. She enjoys the language classes though so when she goes back she can practice her German with her Mak Yang and French with Tante Dora (she took up French earlier right dear cuzzies?) I’m also trying to get free lessons from them.

On Saturday, both hubby dearest and I went for a compulsory first aid course in preparation for our German driving test. We think it’s a good idea to also have this kind of system in Malaysia as it provided us with the basic necessities of first aid should we be faced with an emergency situation. The course was conducted in German and the trainer was so cheesed off upon learning that we only speak a smattering of German that he cursed! So we had to make do to with his minimal English….which we think is quite ok cuma dia ni malu nak cakap Omputih and also with the help of a ‘bidan terjun’ interpreter amongst those present that day. The trainer (although true blue German, he’s surprisingly a practicing Buddhist!) was very good and we had fun during the session with many funny moments. So, next will be the eye test, then the theory to be followed by the practical lesson before the actual test. Hope it will be ok as the actual practical test will be in German although we’ve managed to find a driving school with an English-speaking instructor. The cost maher bebenor, minimum…Euro500 per person…but what to do, that’s the regulations.

Other than the above, the rest have been pretty normal. Till next week, selamat menjalani ibadah puasa.
