Sun Shiny Day

We're on the way to the beach today coz the weather forecast says that it would be sunny after days of rain and gloomy summer days. Traffic jam la pulak....berkm2x stau (stall) although the cause may be as insignificant as road works. So here I am updating the blog out of sheer boredom. Hopefully when we sampai there'll be interesting sights. Last year we took the wrong entrance to the beach and ended up on the nude beach section. What a feast for the eyes....hehehe.....tapi as the saying goes....too much of a good thing is.....uwekkkkk.....especially looking at the likes of Atok and Nenek berpegangan tangan menuju ke gigi air.

Can you spot the Atok and Nenek berpegangan tangan....hehehe
Nothing to see on this beach so tidor lagi baik!
Korek lubang sorok selipar Syirah laaaaaaagi baik!
Alamak....Angah terlupa kat mana hole tu so tak jumpa the slippers....sorry Syirahhhhhhh.... (from Syirah: omg I look HUGE, like a whale or something of that sort ugh) (Ni Mama Syirah: you're anorexic la girl! If you're a whale, what does that make me....sheeeshh!

It'll be a cowboy kind of berkelah today. What little food that I masak last night macam nak habis jer dah kena berapa baham dlm kereta ni while the car moves in a siput mode. The American biscuits or what I call scones tinggal berapa ketul jer. Sedap tau biscuits ni, even pagi ni still soft. When just out of the oven toksah cakap la....cut into 2, lather some butter, then jam, homemade from the red currants belakang rumah....heavenly. I just bought Dorie Greenspan's Cooking from My Home to Yours and am loving it already.

The recipe for the biscuits is from here. Looking at it, it's similar to the recipe used by Ija of inawhiz during our Swiss Heidi getaway. Ija.....seeeeee......awak setaraf la dengan Dorie ni if not better.....great minds think alike kan! I'm still waiting for your book, kena beli buku Dorie dulu sementara nak tunggu yours so please cepat sikit.

BASIC BISCUIT (Dorie Greenspan - Baking from my home to yours)

2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tbs baking powder
2 tsp sugar
1/2 tsp salt
3/4 stick (6 tbs) cold unsalted butter, cut into 12 pieces
3/4 cup cold milk (I added 1/4 tsp baking soda and substituted milk with buttermilk as recommended for a tangier and rich biscuit)

Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.
Whisk dry ingredient in a bowl.
Drop in the butter and using fingertips, cut and rub the butter into the dry ingredients until mixture is pebbly. It's ok to have odd shaped mixture, some pea-size pieces, some the size of oatmeal flakes, some sandy looking. Apparently this contributes to the desired flaky layers.
Pour milk (buttermilk) over the dry ingredients, toss and gently turn the ingredients with a fork until you've got a nice soft dough.
With your hands, give the dough a quick, gentle kneading- 3 or 4 turns just to bring everything together.
Lightly dust a work surface with flour and turn out the dough.
Dust the top of the dough and pat with your hand or roll with a pin until about 1/2 inch high.
Cut out with a biscuit cutter and transfer on to the baking sheets.
Bake for 14-18 minutes or until puffed up and golden brown.

So pretty kan....these red currants are like red rubies. Sayang jer berguguih-guguih kat pokok in the backyard, nak makan mcm tu jer they're a bit too tart and sour so into the pan they go with some strawberries to be turned into jam.

2 botol setengah jam from about a kilo of fruit. I used sugar with pectin already added so easy peasy. The one I used was 500 gm sugar to every kg of fruit. Just heat up the fruit mixture, add the sugar, kacau and wait for it to bubble and pekat sikit. Tak payah pakai thermometer coz mmg we don't have it in the house pun.
These are reddish plums, they're starting to ripen now. Nice to eat at this stage while still firm. Few weeks back we had the yellow ones but that's all gone now.

Esok nak tengok Harry Porter Original English version kat cinema in Hamburg. Syirah dah siap nak bawak tissue coz dia kata this is the last of the series so mesti sedih. I said apa nak sedihnya, mesti Harry as the hero manage to hapuskan itu Mr V kan? Let's see what happens....

Before that we went to a shopping complex in Hamburg and Hakeem who is a huge fan of sushi merengek nak mkn at this place bila dia tengok the plates on a merry go round the conveyor belt. Since abang and kakak dia dah beli baju kat Hollister, Mama layan la anak bongsu Mama ni nak makan kat sini walau pun mahal...kesian pulak kat dia. Tapi bisik2x la kat dia....jgn ambik pinggan yg tu...mahal.....ambik yg ni...murah sikit....nasib baik dia mau dengar kata....phewww...legaaaa....next week must make sushi for him at home, pueh sikit makan.

Tengok la pinggan dia....bersusun jer....

We've seen Harry Porter and tengok2x I cried buckets especially part yg Harry rendam muka dalam sink to look at Snape's past tu. Nasib baik Syirah bawa tissue. I went there expecting to be bored just like the 1st part but I came out of the theater today on a high note, having my emotions on a roller-coaster ride during the movie. It was well above my expectations and it was just awesome. Habis tengok wayang we just lepak with the crowd attending and participating in the Hamburg 2011 Triathlon. Weather was perfect, sunny but not hot. Just nice for strolling and soaking in the sights.
